American Fisheries Society (August 2008)
This was my first presentation as a graduate student (outside of grad classes) and I was quite nervous considering that I knew that the people that would be in attendance were the same people whose papers I was reading and referencing for my project.
On top of all my nervousness a couple weeks before Andrea and I had our second child through c-section and it was very difficult to leave Andrea and the kids for 5 days.
Master's Proposal Defense (December 2008)
As the title suggests, these were the slides that I used to accompany my oral presentation at my master's defense. I had actually presented the day before in Toronto at a headwater meeting which was pretty much the same presentation except for a few changes here and there.
Overall I was satisfied with the presentation. I didn't have much data at the time (I've spent the next 6 months in the lab) so I had to limit most of my presentation to theory and methods.
Graduate Student Conference (April 2009)
I was really disappointed with the delivery of this presentation. I had spent nearly 30 hours developing a flash insert for powerpoint which was this really sweet animation (well sweet according to me anyways) of part of the hydrogeological cycle and how that pertained to material transport through headwaters. But when it came down to actually giving the presentation the computer that it was on wasn't set up properly in order to display flash and last minute I had to go with my plan B presentation which was inadvertently not rehearsed and brutally botched.
Bell Ringer (August 2009)
The guideline I was given for this presentation was to make only 1 slide and to cram as much info onto that one slide as humanly possible and deliver all the info in 4 minutes.
I decided to do something a little different than what I was thinking was going to be the norm during this event. So what I decided to do was explain my project as a conversation between myself and someone else heading the project. I kept it really light and informal and it turned out pretty good and I did get some laughs out of the audience. It was a lot of fun :)
